If you are bored of look at the same old Windows 7 Start Orb, you can now change it easily.

Click on Select & Change Start Button to select a custom Start Orb.
The program will backup you original explorer.exe, change the start button and restart explorer.exe.

To restore the default Start Orb and explorer from the backup, click Restore Original Explorer Backup.
The next time you want to change the start orb and you start the app, it will appear like this:

Notes:
1. Before changing from one custom orb to another custom orb, I’d suggest you first Restore Original Explorer Backup and go back to the defaults and then change over to another custom orb. (But not Necessary)

2. The two files “Windows 7 Start Orb Changer” & “r.exe” must be in the same folder. ("r.exe" is Resource Hacker used to change bitmap)

3. Best to always create a System Restore point first. Should you face any problems copy-paste sfc /scannow in start search and when it appears in the search result, right click on it and Run As Admin. This will run the System File Checker and replace all corrupted system files with original system files.

4. In the rare eventuality that you lose your explorer.exe, then from your desktop, press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC to bring up the Task Manager. Click File tab > New Task > Type cmd > Click Run. In the command prompt which opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter. Restart when asked to.

5. IF in x64 version, you receive an ‘unhandled exception‘ error, please click on Continue or try running it again ‘As an Admin‘.
I have tried & tested it on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, personally and it works like a charm. Right click the program icon and ‘Run it as Admin’.

If you don't have any start orb bitmaps, you can use Google to find some and I have also added some sample start orb bitmaps in it. The start orb bitmaps which I have provided are not created by me. If you want to restore the original start orb back then Click on Restore Original Explorer Backup. and it will be restored

Windows 7 Start Orb Changer v3 (My Favorite) is a free tiny portable tool that allows you to change your Windows 7 start orb with one click. No need to manually do anything! Just select your start orb bitmap and you are done.

There are 2 files and 1 folder in the archive:

Windows 7 Start Orb Changer.exe - The main executable file

Sample Orbs - Contains 33 sample start orb bitmaps

r.exe - Used by the tool to replace the start orb bitmaps (Resource Hacker)

If you don't have any start orb bitmaps, you can use Google to find some and I have also added some sample start orb bitmaps in it. The start orb bitmaps which I have provided are not created by me. If you want to restore the original start orb back then change the orb to the first sample start orb bitmap in the Sample Orbs folder.

The 2 files "Windows 7 Start Orb Changer.exe" & "r.exe" should stay in the same folder to work. It works with both Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit. If you get an error while changing the start orb bitmap click on "Continue" and try again.

Changelog:

v3:

Added more sample start orbs.

v2:
Added more sample start orbs.

Added support for .jpg, .png & .gif image file types.
